My Job Disappeared and My 1st Year of Trading Experience

The company I workded for was doing over $100 Mil a year in revenue in 1983 & two years later, they were out of business. How? Houston, had a monster recession where over 1/2 of the banks in Texas became insolvent. 

So, jobless with no college education. What to do? I had no interest in ever working for someone again. I vowed to be the person in charge of my own destiny. If I failed, at least it was my own doing. And If I succeeded, I would get to spend the rest of my life enjoying my business and learn to make investments for passive income. Well..

That's exactly what I did. 

It started with a small inheritance of $30k, which was perfect timing to carry me over on bills after losing my job, and I also decided on a whim to put most of the funds into the stock market. Time to see if I could be wealthy. My broker, Phil Christian, suggested options since I did not have enough money to trade leading stocks. And I knew enough to know the penny stocks weare a sham.  

This worked well as the market was on a tear. Full on Bull leg up.  The result was a 400%+ return that year. $30k to over $152k in a year ($600k in today's money). Luck? Some for sure, but fortune favors the bold. I took the risk and it paid off. Did I have pro trading skills? Definitely not. A sideways market or a bear market would have probably crushed me.  

Anyway, I was now a 28 year old who bought a 2-story home, 2 cars, a 1/2 interest in a new twin engine Navajo Chieftan aircraft, and a share of an oil drilling venture, all while my buddies were making $20k a year & struggling to pay rent.  

Then I started using the proceeds from building homes to buy rental homes. Over a decade I bought over 100 rental homes, and started a small property management company to manage them.  

Finally, I found myself with lots of time and decided to revisit the stock market again. I read all the books, took a seminar or two, tried a trading room (huge waste of time), and finally, totally frustrated, I developed my own simple, repeatable method to invest and trade with. One that works with the price action of any chart, with any stock, futures, crypto, etc. And maybe the best part is it will never go out of style as it's based on the up & down rhythm of the price action. 

Every stock or index has waves, and support/resistance points. Crypto too.  

Was this an easy task to build a trading system? Absolutely not. It was the culmination of almost 3 decades of ups & downs in trading. I recorded all my trades on an Excel sheet for 4 years. I noted the average moves, the %, the time, and eventually the things that were repeatable jumped out at me. I promise you there are repeatable patterns in all markets. And I also stopped scanning (forever) and focused on a small group of 5 leading stocks and the QQQ & Spy. That's it.

My method is 100% based on price action, not volume, algorithms, or any of the outdated strategies in the books. All traders know that if any one book was the answer, every trader on the planet would order that book from Amazon by the end of the day. Never going to happen!

Am I leaving out the Mindset needed? And the Risk strategy? No way. You either figure out both of these or use you account to go 1st class to Fiji. You'll at least have some great memories!

Both of these are not complicated but are incredibly hard to master without a mentor. If you went to work for a Hedge Fund, would you receive this training? Of course! That, and you would have to bring a winning attitude!!

So, why am I here? Well, after a wonderfully successful business, investing, & trading career, I can assure you I did not build this website to sell courses. There's a longer version to this story, but the short version is I was persuaded by a close friend & golfing buddy to help his son out, and although hesitant at first, I'm always open to a new challenge, so I gave it a go. And that young man is still trading full time 8 years later! No 9-5 for him! 

While I continued trading, my real estate and construction companies were making me wealthy, and the passive income from rental properties and other investments dominated my time and focus. 

I first started a contracting business that evolved into my building high-end custom homes for over two decades. I'm proud to have built top of the line high-end homes for the wealthy in Houston, Texas, but even more proud to have built a reputation of trust & integrity. My family & I built this 4,500 sq ft one for us.
